Stringed Instruments Classes

No special references to rules are included in this Section of Classes. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH COMPETITOR TO READ THE RULES AND REGULATIONS AND TO ENTER THE CORRECT CLASS.

Competitors must have ORIGINAL music for all classes for the adjudicator. Competitor's must provide own music stands and you must provide your own accompanist. Accompaniment is to be by piano only unless otherwise specified. NO TAPED ACCOMPANIMENT ALLOWED.

** The Board of the Music Festival reserves the right to cancel any classes if the number of entries in these classes are insufficient. Applicant fees will be returned in full.

FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION, 'STRINGED INSTRUMENTS' REFERS TO THE VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO OR DOUBLE BASS.

** FOR ALL CLASSES ENTERED PLEASE INDICATE ON THE ENTRY FORM THE APPROXIMATE PERFORMANCE TIME FOR EACH PIECE BEING PERFORMED.

Abbreviations in this section are to be interpreted as: Jr. - Junior level - Grade 5 and under Int. - Intermediate level - Grades 6, 7 & 8 Sr. - Senior level - Grade 9 and up

Accompanied String Ensembles

NOTE: Ensembles in these classes may be comprised of any combination of strings. The accompanist in these classes will not be adjudicated.

String And Piano Ensembles

NOTE: String players and pianist will be adjudicated in this section. The combined mark of string player(s) and pianist will determine the winner. The pianist may play in only one entry in this section and must be at a comparable music level of study as the string player(s). ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS THE NAMES OF BOTH PIANIST AND STRING PLAYER(S) ARE SUBMITTED ON THE ENTRY FORM.

String Orchestra Classes

Competitor's own choice of two contrasting selections.

String Solo - Adults

These classes are intended to encourage adult string students. An adjudication will be given, but no marks or placement. Classes will be scheduled in the evening.

String Solo - Fiddle Class

Own choice of two contrasting selections. Time limit 5 minutes. These classes are non-competitive. An adjudication and participation certificate will be given, but no marks or placement.

String Solo Classes - Competitive

This section is for competitors who wish to have an adjudication AND a mark AND a placement. For the purposes of this section 'Stringed Instruments' refers to violin, viola, cello or double bass. Competitors own choice of any composition from the appropriate list of the CURRENT Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus unless otherwise indicated. Please number bar lines for the adjudicator.

String Solos Classes - Non-competitive

These classes are non-competitive. An adjudication and participation certificate will be given, but no marks or placement.

String, Woodwind, Brass & Percussion

NOTE: The following classes are to be composed of any combination of Strings Woodwind, Brass and/or Percussion and including Piano instruments.

Unaccompanied String Ensembles

NOTE: No accompaniment or conducting is permitted in these classes. Ensembles in these classes may be comprised of any combination of strings.
